In bottom of the 9th, with two out and a man on 2nd, David Ortiz is intentionally walked (for obvious reasons), and then Rivera makes the final out.

Game 2: Yankees ?, Red Sox ?
Starters: Undecided vs. Jason Johnson
Notes: The front runner to start for the Yankees is Sidney Ponson, who sucks, but it's not set in stone yet. Torre may call someone up from the minors to start this game. However, Jason Johnson sucks more than Ponson or anyone that Torre could call up from the minor leagues, and all signs point to a callup for Jeff Karstens, who was pulled from a game last night in only first inning, and he didn't give up any hits or walks yet. I expect the Sox to win this, though, based on offense, because this should be a high scoring game.

Game 3: Yankees 8, Red Sox 6
Starters: Randy Johnson vs. Josh Beckett
Notes: Both RJ and Josh Beckett aren't doing too well, but Randy seems to be breaking out of his funk, and getting better. Josh Beckett has a worse ERA. The Yankees has good offensive depth, while the Red Sox have "just" Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. I'm giving this one to the Yankees.

Game 4: Yankees 4, Red Sox 3
Starters: Mike Mussina vs. Curt Schilling
Notes: Easily the best pitching matchup of the series. And I mean easily. Should be a close one.

Game 5: Yankees ?, Red Sox ?
Starters: To be announced vs. To be announced
Notes: I think the Yankees "to be announced" will be Jaret Wright. I don't know about the Red Sox because I don't know how their rotation goes. Maybe they will call someone up for the minors, or better, let Jon Papelbon have a spot start, but I doubt it, because if so, they wouldn't have him pitching at least 2 days before this, and the Sox are gonna wanna use him as closer during this series. I think the Red Sox take this one, especially if Wrighty will be pitching.

American League Playoff Predictions Reviewed, part 1

These are my new feelings on each division...

AL EAST
Yankees 55%
Red Sox 45%
Everyone Else 0%

Comments on the AL East: Now the Yankees are in first place, without a tie, and the Red Sox have been known to fade down the stretch (see 1978), but I am not counting the Sox out yet. Plus, the Sox did nothing while the Yanks had one of the best trading deadlines of all time. Blue Jays have no shot, whatsoever.

AL CENTRAL
Tigers 80%
White Sox 15%
Twins: 5%

Comments on the AL Central: The Tigers look like they are running away with it, and even secured another impact bat during the deadline in Sean Casey. However, the team is dependent on it's young starters (Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman), and young starters are prone to breakdown and injury come season's end, if they have pitched a full season (see Francisco Liriano). For the Twins, the loss of Francisco Liriano is a big one, but Johan Sanatana can definitely pick up some slack...although he may not be the best pitcher in baseball anymore.

AL WEST
Athletics 25%
Everyone Else 18.75%

Comments on the AL West: It is a VERY close race, but Beane's team (the A's) have been known to catch fire during the stretch. Really, this is a tough one.

WILDCARD!

Assuming my predictions for who will win the division hold up, this is the wildcard.

I am not going to even try to predict the wildcard, as the Red Sox and the White Sox are tied for 1st in that, and the Twins are only 1/2 game behind them. It could be any of them! Toronto has no shot, despite what many people think.

I will review these again probably at the beginning of September. Tommarow I will do the NL.

CRAP! I didn't use any fancy formulas to get these percentages...just my knoledge of baseball. When, in one division, every team is just ok, you're not going to have a wildcard winner.
